Gums

The gums and bone are the foundation of the teeth and must be kept healthy.

Your teeth and mouth are the port of entry for nutrition, the port of exit for communication, and the billboard of your health, self concern and personality.

Healthy Gums

The gums are attached to the teeth with a ligament called the periodontal ligament. It is important to maintain the health of the gums and attachment because a breakdown here can lead to bone loss and eventually loss of teeth.

Early Warning Signs

Early signs of gum problems include red, puffy gums and bleeding, known as gingivitis. This can be reversed with a dental cleaning and improved home care. If bone loss has occurred or a loss of attachment, this is considered periodontal disease, and a more advanced treatment is required.
